Məşhur, lakin bəxti gətirməyən yazıçı Devid Stounun həyatı, qanqster Meyer Lanskinin ona zəng etməsi ilə tamamilə dəyişir. Hakimiyyət orqanları illərdir Lanskinin milyonlarla dolları harada gizlətdiyini tapmağa çalışır. Lanskinin Stounu axtarmasının səbəbi isə həyatı haqqındakı danışılmamış həqiqətləri üzə çıxarmaq istəməsidir.
