Vietnam veteranı olan Jacob Singer (Tim Robbins) reallığı xəyaldan ayıra bilməyən, hallüsinasiyalarla dolu bir həyat yaşayır. O, Vietnamda olarkən dövlət tərəfindən ona aqressiyanı və gücünü artıran, lakin eyni zamanda tədricən dəli olmasına səbəb olan bir dərman verildiyini xatırlayır. Yaşadığı həyatın real olduğuna heç cür inana bilməyən Jacob, ağlını itirməmək üçün hər şeyə hazırdır.
