Usta rejissor Barbet Schroeder bu filmdə Hollivudun iki ulduz aktyoru Maykl Kiton və Endi Qarsiyanı bir araya gətirir. San-Fransiskolu polis Frenk Konnor (Endi Qarsiya) ölümcül xəstə oğlu üçün uyğun sümük iliyi donoru axtarır. Bir çox cinayət törətmiş Piter Makkeyb (Maykl Kiton) üçün isə xəstəxanaya daxil olmaq azadlığına qovuşmaq üçün yeganə şansdır. Makkeybin qaçması ilə bütün xəstəxana döyüş meydanına çevrilir və Konnor ironik bir şəkildə cani qaçqını qorumaq məcburiyyətində qalır. Oğlunun xilas olmasının yeganə yolunun bu olduğunu bilən polis Konnor üçün vəziyyət daha da mürəkkəbləşir.
