Artur Seldom (Con Hert) Oksford Universitetində məşhur bir riyaziyyat professorudur. Doktorantı Martin (Elayca Vud) isə ona o qədər heyrandır ki, hətta onun qarşısındakı mənzilə köçür. Bir gün universitetdə silsilə qətllər baş verir və qatil cinayət yerlərində riyazi simvollar qoyur. Qatili dayandırmaq istəyən professorun ən böyük köməkçisi tələbəsi Martin olur. Yaşadığı yerdə baş verən qətldən sonra işlər qarışdıqda, onlar cinayətləri 'Şerlok Holms üslubu' ilə məntiq və riyazi simvollardan istifadə edərək həll etməyə çalışırlar.
