Xoşbəxt bir evlilik yaşayan John və Laura cütlüyünün həyatı, gənc qadının bir qətl araşdırmasında həbs olunması ilə alt-üst olur. Laura nə qədər günahsız olduğunu desə də, həbs cəzasına məhkum edilir. Lauranın günahsızlığına şübhə etməyən John, ailəsini bir arada tutmağa çalışmaqla yanaşı, həyat yoldaşının hadisə ilə əlaqəsi olmadığını sübut etmək üçün bütün ipuclarının ardınca gedir. Lauranın günahı çıxarıldığı sonuncu məhkəmədə təsdiqlənir. İntihar həddinə çatan Lauranı xilas etmək üçün Johnun əlində tək bir çarə qalır: Həyat yoldaşını həbsxanadan qaçırmaq.
