1750-ci illərin Cənubi Amerikasında, cəngəlliyin dərinliklərində bir missioner çarmıxa çəkilərək öldürüldükdən sonra Ata Qabriel məsul qəbilə ilə əlaqə qurmağa çalışır. Lakin yüksək təpələrdə yerliləri axtaran tək şəxs Ata Qabriel deyil. Sevgi nə olduğunu bilməyən qul alverçisi Mendoza da bu toxunulmamış bölgəni kəşf edib. Mendoza sevdiyi yeganə iki insan olan qardaşı Felipe və varlı, gənc dul qadın Karlottanın münasibətini öyrənəndə qardaşını öldürəcək qədər qəddarlaşır. Buna baxmayaraq, Ata Qabrielin səyləri ilə missiyaya qoşulacaq və vəhşi cəngəlliklərdə yerlilər üçün çalışacaq, hətta Atanın etirazına baxmayaraq bu yolda mübarizə aparacaq.
