Rio adlı bir oğlan bacısı ilə birlikdə Amerikanın cənub-qərb sərhədini keçməyə çalışır. Məqsədləri onları təqib edən əmilərindən qaçmaqdır. Bu zaman onlar qanunsuz Billy The Kid-i yaxalamağa çalışan Pat Garrett ilə qarşılaşırlar. Bütün bu hadisələrin ortasında Rio kim olmaq istədiyini müəyyənləşdirməyə çalışır və cəsarətli olmaqla qanunsuz olmaq arasında seçim etmək məcburiyyətində qalır. O, nəyin bahasına olursa-olsun ailəsini xilas etmək üçün əlindən gələni edəcək.
