13 noyabr 1974-cü ildə polis Nyu-Yorkun Lonq-Aylend ştatındakı 112 Ocean Avenue ünvanından qorxu dolu bir zəng qəbul etdi. Hadisə yerinə gələn polis bütün ailəni yataqlarında qətlə yetirilmiş halda tapdı. Bir neçə gün sonra Ronald DeFeo evdəki bəzi “səslərin” onu valideynlərini və 4 bacı-qardaşını öldürməyə vadar etdiyini etiraf etdi. Bir il sonra George Lutz, Kathy Lutz və uşaqları xəyal etdikləri evi tapdıqlarını düşünərək həmin evə köçdülər. Köçdükdən qısa müddət sonra evdə izaholunmaz və qəribə hadisələr baş verməyə başlayır, ev sanki canlanır və əbədiyyən “Amityville Horror” kimi tanınacaq dəhşətli hadisələr silsiləsi başlayır.
