John və Ted Bostonda yaşayırlar. John artıq subay olsa da, Ted Tami-Lynn ilə sabit bir həyat qurub. Evlilik problemləri yeni evlənənlərə təsir etməyə başlayanda, Ted və Tami-Lynn uşaq sahibi olmağa qərar verirlər. Massachusetts ştatı Tedin insan deyil, bir əşya olduğunu və buna görə də övladlığa götürməyə uyğun olmadığını bəyan edəndə onların ümidləri puç olur.
