Edgar Allan Poe-nun qısa hekayəsi əsasında çəkilmiş bu film, müəllifin digər əsərləri kimi qaranlıq bir atmosferə malikdir. Tibb fakültəsini bitirən gənc bir həkim ilk təyinatı üzrə psixiatriya xəstəxanasına göndərilir. Zaman keçdikcə xəstələrin davranışlarına və gündəlik rejiminə alışan gənc həkim, bir müddət sonra heç nəyin göründüyü kimi sadə və adi olmadığını anlayır.
