Uşaq aktyorun çətin keçən uşaqlıq dövründən bəhs edən filmdə Otis, psixi durumu yerində olmayan atası ilə böyük bir mübarizə aparır. Otis-in atası Ceyms asılılığı səbəbindən reabilitasiya mərkəzinə yatırılıb və müalicə olunaraq geri qayıdıb. Ceyms daim oğlunu təhdid edərək onu motivasiya etməyə çalışır. Otis böyüdükdə isə artıq yalnız atasından qalan problemlərlə deyil, həm də özünün psixoloji çətinlikləri ilə mübarizə aparmalı olur... Honey Boy, Shia LaBeouf-un həyatından və alkoqolik atası ilə yaşadığı problemli münasibətdən bəhs edir. Mövzusu ilə diqqət çəkən filmin ən maraqlı tərəfi isə Shia LaBeouf-un öz atasını canlandırmasıdır.
