At yarışları haqqında heç bir məlumatı olmayan evdar xanım Penny Chenery-nin (Diane Lane) sahib olduğu Secretariat adlı yarış atının 1973-cü ildə ardıcıl üç dəfə çempion olmasından bəhs edən filmdə, John Malkovich təqaüdçü at yetişdiricisi Lucien Laurin rolunu canlandırır. Tamamilə real hadisələrə əsaslanan film, kişi hegemonluğu olan at yarışı sənayesində bir qadının uğur hekayəsini və 25 il ərzində qırıla bilməyən rekordu təsvir edir.
