Yaşlı Levi Rockwell (Burt Lancaster) ad günündə evinə toplaşan övladlarını və nəvələrini Viking hekayələri ilə əyləndirir. O, son arzusunu dilə gətirir: "Bir Viking kimi dənizdə dəfn olunmaq, alovlu oxla yandırılmış qayıqda əbədiyyətə yola salınmaq." Bir neçə gün sonra, ad günündə vəfat etmiş halda tapılan babalarının bu vəsiyyətini xatırlayan uşaqlar, böyüklərin onu ənənəvi qaydada dəfn etməsinə imkan vermirlər. Onlar babalarının son arzusunu yerinə yetirmək üçün gizli bir Viking dəfn mərasimi təşkil edirlər.
