1947-ci ildə cərəyan edən hekayə uzun müddət əvvəl təqaüdə çıxaraq Sussex qəsəbəsində ev işçisi və himayəsində böyütdüyü yeniyetmə detektiv oğlu ilə yaşamağa başlayan Holmesdan bəhs edir. Holmes sakit həyat sürərkən qəfildən özünü 50 il əvvəl baş vermiş və hələ də açılmamış bir işin içində tapır. Lakin yaddaşı əvvəlki qədər güclü deyil; bu hadisə ilə bağlı xatırladığı yeganə görüntü qəzəbli bir ər və gözəl, amma qeyri-sabit bir qadındır… Filmin rejissoru və ssenari müəllifi Bill Condon, baş rolda isə Ian McKellen çəkilir.
