Milad bayramı ərəfəsində bir mağazada Şaxta baba kimi işə başlayan, ağsaqqal, mehriban Kriss Kringle adlı qoca, əsl Şaxta babanın məhz özü olduğunu iddia edir. Gənc bir vəkil bu xoşniyyətli qocanı məhkəmədə müdafiə etməyə və onun həqiqətən Şaxta baba olduğunu sübut etməyə qərar verir. İnsanların öz inanclarında azad olmalı olduğunu vurğulayan filmin finalında, Amerika dollarının üzərində yazılmış “In God We Trust” (Biz Tanrıya inanırıq) ifadəsi məhkəməyə sübut kimi təqdim olunur.
