Onbirinci əsr Şotlandiyasında Kral Duncan'ın (David Thewlis) ordusunda general olan Macbeth (Michael Fassbender) asilərlərə qarşı mühüm bir qələbə əldə edir. Müharibədən sonra rastlaşdığı üç cəngavər ona kral olacağını proqnozlaşdırır. Bu peşin xəbərdən xilas olmayan Macbeth, tamahkar həyat yoldaşının təsiri altında Kral Duncan'ı öldürərək taxtı alır. Lakin Macbeth bununla kifayatlanmaz. Ələ keçən güclə tədricən təcrid olunan və hətta ən yaxın dostlarından belə şübhə etməyə başlayan yeni Kral, özünə maneə təşkil edən hər kəsi aradan qaldırmağa qərarlı olur.
