Tarixçilər uzun əsrlər boyu Kral Arthur-un sadəcə bir əfsanə olduğunu və əslində heç yaşamadığını düşünürdülər. Lakin bu əfsanənin kökündə şəxsi istəkləri ilə xalqına xidmət etmək arzusu arasında qalmış əsl bir qəhrəman dayanırdı. Roma İmperatoru Marcus Aurelius tərəfindən Britaniyaya göndərilən Arthur-un yeganə məqsədi tez bir zamanda oradan ayrılıb Roma-nın sakit və dinc mühitinə qayıtmaq idi. Lakin geri dönməzdən əvvəl o, son bir tapşırıq yerinə yetirməli olur. Dəyirmi Masa Cəngavərləri kimi tanınan Lancelot, Galahad, Bors, Tristan və Gawain ilə birlikdə Britaniyada son bir xilasetmə əməliyyatı həyata keçirməlidirlər.
