İkinci Dünya Müharibəsində vuruşmuş keçmiş əsgər Frank Sheeran uzun illər Bufalino cinayətkar dəstəsi üçün çalışıb. Bir çox məşhur şəxslər üçün fırıldaqçılıq və muzdlu qatillik edən, "İrlandiyalı" ləqəbi ilə tanınan Sheeran, həmçinin həmkarlar ittifaqının rəsmisi olub. Frank Sheeran-ın həyatından bəhs edən filmdə Amerika tarixinin ən sirli cinayət hadisələrindən biri — fəhlə hərəkatının lideri Jimmy Hoffa-nın müəmmalı şəkildə yoxa çıxmasına da toxunulur.
