Forrest Gump aşağı IQ səviyyəsinə sahib olmasına baxmayaraq, Amerika tarixinin ən mühüm hadisələrinin tam mərkəzində yer alan biridir. Alabamada böyüyən Forrest, qaçmaq bacarığı sayəsində universitetə daxil olur, Vyetnam müharibəsində iştirak edir, Ağ Evə dəvət olunur və karides biznesi ilə milyonçu olur. Lakin bütün bu uğurlar, uşaqlıq sevgisi Jenniyə olan məhəbbətinin yanında kölgədə qalır.
