1997-ci ildə LAPD detektivi Russell Poole gizli tapşırıqda olan bir polisin digər həmkarını öldürməsi hadisəsini araşdırmağa başlayır. Gözlənilmədən bu istintaq onu Biggie Smalls və Tupac Shakur cinayətlərinin mərkəzinə aparır. Vaxtilə bu cinayətlərin üstünü açmağa çalışan, lakin qarşısı kəsilərək karyerası məhv edilən detektiv Poole, 2015-ci ildə tanış olduğu nüfuzdan düşmüş jurnalist Darius "Jack" Jackson ilə birlikdə bu iki cinayəti yenidən araşdırmağa qərar verir.
