Gənc Will Andrews akademik karyerasını geridə qoyaraq Harvardı tərk etməyə və təbiətin çağırışına uymağa qərar verir. O, yeni həyatına başlamaq və özünü tapmaq üçün qərbə köçür. Səyahəti zamanı sakit Butcher's Crossing qəsəbəsindən keçərkən vəhşi bufalo sürüsü ovlayan yerli Miller ilə tanış olur. Onlar hər şeyə rəğmən ova çıxmağa qərar verirlər, lakin çox keçmədən hər ikisinin əsl niyyəti üzə çıxır. Çünki ov nə qədər uzun çəkərsə, bədəniniz və zehniniz bir o qədər çox sınağa çəkilir.
