Judith C. Brown-un “Immodest Acts: The Life of a Lesbian Nun in Renaissance Italy” romanı əsasında çəkilən film XVII əsr İtaliyasında cərəyan edir. Rahibə Benedetta Carlini dindar və fövqəltəbii qabiliyyətlərə malik bir qadın kimi tanınır. Lakin Benedetta o dövrdə ölüm cəzası ilə nəticələnə biləcək cinsi arzularına hakim ola bilmir və özü kimi bir rahibə ilə eşq yaşamağa başlayır. Bu münasibət üzə çıxdıqdan sonra homoseksuallıq və cadugərlik ittihamları ilə üzləşən Benedetta 35 il müddətinə azadlıqdan məhrum edilir.
