Birinci Dünya Müharibəsi dövründə bir kişi gimnaziyasında müəllimlik edən Professor Kantorek, şagirdlərini müharibəyə qatılmağın və əsgər olmağın son dərəcə şərəfli bir vəzifə olduğuna inandıraraq ruhlandırır. Bu təsirli çıxışlardan ilhamlanan gənclər könüllü olaraq Alman ordusuna qoşulurlar. Lakin müharibə nə kitablarda yazıldığı, nə də müəllimlərinin danışdığı kimi epik bir hadisədir. Gənc əsgərlər bu yanılmanın fərqinə varsalar da, artıq geri dönüş yoxdur; onlar bütün saflıqları ilə siyasi oyunların və amansız planların kölgəsində həyatları uğrunda mübarizə aparacaqlar. 1930-cu il istehsalı olan "All Quiet on the Western Front" filminin uyğunlaşdırılmasıdır.
