Məşhur səyahət yazıçısı Bill Bryson 20 il Britaniyada yaşadıqdan sonra vətəninə qayıdır və son 10 ili New Hampshire-də həyat yoldaşı Catherine ilə sakit bir həyat sürür. Bir gün yenidən səyahət eşqi oyanan Bryson, 3500 kilometrlik məşhur Appalachian Yürüyüş Cığırını qət etməyə qərar verir. Həyat yoldaşı onun tək getməsinə razı olmur. Brysonla bu səyahəti bölüşməyə həvəsli yeganə şəxs isə köhnə dostu Stephen Katz olur. Lakin ikisinin "macəra" anlayışının tamamilə fərqli olması bu səyahəti qəribə və bəzən də gülməli bir hala gətirəcək.
