Matt Scudder, alkoqol səbəbindən hər şeyini itirmiş keçmiş polis məmurudur. Bu hadisə onu hərəkətə keçməyə vadar edir: əgər qatili tapa bilsə, bəlkə öz həyatını da xilas edə bilər. Araşdırmaları onu amansız narkobaron Angelin izinə aparır. Kömək üçün kazino sahibi Chance və seks işçisi Sarah-dan dəstək alır. Lakin işlər gözlənilməz şəkildə qarışır.
